ABOUT OUR NAME

We have kept the original name of HeartSong Sanctuary because we still seek sanctuary and are devoted to finding it in ourselves and sharing what we learn as we go. This place was born out of a desire to have a home, to love others and to love the land well.

our concept of love

A permaculturist might love a garden. The permaculturist’s method in getting a garden to thrive is not to impose what it wants to grow but to discover what naturally wants to grow and in a particular location and soil and to help those things grow and become self-sustaining. Instead of being dependent on the water from the utility company, the gardener may engage the landscape so that rainwater does not run off into a stream until it has crossed paths with the pants that need it. Rainwater might be collected in ponds or from roofs of buildings so that it can be drawn from when the rain is absent. There might even be hugelkultur beds made so that the plants can become independent from the active watering of the gardener. A garden loved in such a way becomes independent and generously fruitful.

We want to love ourselves in this way. Love our beloveds in this way. Love all the people on the planet and the earth itself in this way. To facilitate this we have gathered our most cherished offerings from our many teachers in one place.  We have gathered followers of this path so that we might practice and learn how to love with each other.

The definition of love we use here is a verb: to facilitate thriving through transformation.
